Submissions

If you're interested gracing the stage (i.e. floorboards) at one of our shows, here's what needs to happen first. (Unless we're already harassing you to come out.)

For writers: Anyone interested in submitting should know that Ruckus Readings is all about mixing things up. We therefore require that your reading involves some level of up-mixing, and we are willing to hear out any ideas you have to break out of the everyone-shhhush-there's-a-reader-at-the-mic mould. We like audience participation, collaborations, noise, props, performativity, games, toasts, chants, dancing: anything with the potential to stir up a bit of a ruckus.

If this sounds like something you're into, send us a sample of your work. It doesn't have to be the exact piece you read at the show, but it should be indicative of both your quality and tone. If you're a prose writer, send us a complete short work or an excerpt from a longer piece. We're talking short as in approximately 2500-3000 words. (Good to know: Reading slots will be about 15-20 minutes long.) Poets, send us 3-5 pages of your best. Include a short description of any ideas you have of how you plan to engage the wonky dynamics of the space we're trying to create.

If our mandate makes you a little nervous, or you're not sure how to adapt any of your work (but you think you've got some work that's well worth sharing) drop us a line and ask a few questions. Alternatively, come out to our next event and see how this works! You may just find yourself inspired.

For musicians: We're looking for people to set the mood, give the show some groove, er... do some interludes. Wear some shoes. You know, band things. Get us a sample of your work however you can: email us some audio files, send us a link to your YouTube channel or your Myspace page, track us down at home and sing into our windows, etc.

Please note that, at this time, we are unfunded, so, at this time, we are unable to offer compensation for our readers or performers. Unless you count cheering, fame, exposure and public adoration. We will be trying to get you some of that.

Send the above-requested items our way through the free and wonderful magic of email at ruckusreadings@gmail.com.

Thanks google. For this blog too.
